7. THE RZESZÓW REGION
/ RZESZOWSZCZYZNA/

Because of its specific culture, the Rzeszów region deserves to be dealt with separately. Architecture of this region is primarily marked by wooden churches – the most impressive is the huge church in Haczów. A speciality of this region are small wooden orthodox churches which are still quite numerous. The cottages' bodies are dominated by tall hipped roofs covered with straw. They are often joined with agricultural buildings. House interiors are decorated with glass paintings and woodcuts which are popular in this region. Numerous shrines, also made of stone, can be seen here. As far as fabric is concerned, the most distinctive is archaic embroidery – especially white – whose style does not resemble any other in Poland.
